The connected valley
A major corridor in and out of London, the ULV offers direct rail links into the City via Liverpool Street (12 mins), Stratford (12 mins), Stansted Airport (20 mins) and Heathrow Airport (40 minutes). In addition, it is well placed on the road network with excellent access to the M25, M11, A10 and the North Circular.
Rail
The West Anglia rail line runs north-south along the ULV, serving stations between Liverpool Street and Stansted/ Cambridge. A spur to Stratford provides a gateway to the Olympics, Stratford and Docklands. The Barking-Gospel Oak radial line runs east-west, through Blackhorse Road, providing direct orbital links to west and east London.
Tube
The London Underground connects into the ULV with three lines – the Victoria Line (through to Walthamstow Central), Central Line (Leyton and Leytonstone) and Piccadilly Line to the west – all providing easy access into Central London and onward connections in circa 20 minutes.

Road
Road infrastructure also allows direct access in to Central London and the wider region. The North Circular (A406) is the key east-west orbital route across the ULV, providing a direct link to the M11 and M1/A1 corridors. The M25 motorway across the top of the ULV provides the major strategic orbital route around London, with access via junctions 24, 25 and 26.
An extensive bus network already supports the region, with over £6m already invested in bus interchanges – and more planned – to ensure a comprehensive service across the ULV.
While the existing transport infrastructure is highly effective, significant enhancements, particularly in public transport, are required to unlock the growth potential in the area.
Network Rail, with Transport for London are progressing plans for major investment in the West Anglia Line, providing a Metro-style stopping service for the ULV. Network Rail has identified this as a priority project.
